(Football news) A brilliant header by Diego Simeon’s son Giovanni Simeone helped Napoli seal a famous 2-1 win against AC Milan and return to the top of the Serie A table. Simeone headed the ball in the 78th minute from the edge of the six-yard box following a brilliant cross from Mario Rui. Matteo Politano scored a penalty in the 55th minute following a careless foul by Sergino Dest on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the penalty box. Olivier Giroud fired in an equaliser in the 69th minute when Theo Hernandez crossed in the middle of the box.
The hosts missed a series of good chances in the first half as Giroud threatened to give them an early lead in the 13th minute but his effort hit the woodwork after keeper Alex Meret deflected the ball brilliantly. The French international tried to net a scissor-kick in the 25th minute, taking the ball away from captain Davide Calabria as he sent the ball over the net. Milan's Rade Krunic also came close to scoring with a header in the 28th minute but Meret was again there to make a brilliant save. Napoli with this result have 17 points after seven games while Milan are fifth in the table.
Udinese are sitting at the top of the Serie A standings after goals from Jaka Bijol and Tolgay Arslan sealed a brilliant 3-1 home win over Inter Milan which was their fifth successive league victory. The hosts last won five consecutive games was in December 2017 where they got 16 points from seven games as they equalled their best start to a season. Italy midfielder Nicolo Barella started the scoring when he curled a superb free kick past goalkeeper Marco Silvestri and gave Inter an early lead. Udinese quickly levelled the scores in the 22nd minute thanks to an own goal from Milan Skriniar after Beto's header bounced off the Inter defender and caught goalkeeper Samir Handanovic by surprise.
Handanovic made a brilliant save from a long-range low shot from Sandi Lovric around the hour mark and denied Udinese several chances in the second half as Inter struggled to keep the hosts outside of their own half. However, their defence was eventually broken in the 84th minute when Bijol scored from a Gerard Deulofeu corner while substitute Arslan put the final nail in the coffin to ensure all three points in the third minute of stoppage time with a header from yet another cross from Deulofeu. Inter are now sixth in the standings while Udinese are joint top with Napoli.
