In a major sporting advancement, Nagaland University (NU)’s women’s football team made its debut at the East Zone Football (Women’s) Inter-University Tournament 2024-25, which took place from November 1–5, 2024, at the National Sports University in Manipur.
Prof. J.K. Patnaik, the vice chancellor, commended the athletes for their bravery in taking the field. “This is only the beginning, and I have no doubt that their involvement in this competition will encourage a lot more students to participate in sports at NU,” Prof. Patnaik stated.
The team’s involvement is a component of the University’s endeavor to cultivate a strong sports culture. The team has the sincere support of DDS Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari, who has been a steadfast supporter of student participation in athletics.
Additionally, Dr. Tiwari used the occasion to encourage all NU students to step up and compete in government tournaments at the intercollegiate and national levels. He underlined how crucial these venues are for displaying talent and gaining respect for the players, the university, and the state of Nagaland.
Nagaland University often holds open tryouts for a variety of sports, allowing athletes to demonstrate their abilities with the possibility of being chosen to represent the university in future contests, according to a release from NU PRO Peter Ki. Any student between the ages of 17 and 25 who is presently enrolled at NU is eligible to participate in the open trials. In order to improve the institution’s standing and Nagaland’s sporting culture, the university wants to maximize its students’ athletic ability and bring home medals.
