Nadal’s Return May Ignite Old Rivalries

Rafael Nadal said that he hasn’t touched a racquet since quitting professional tennis in November of last year, but a comeback to the court might be imminent.  According to rumors, the Spanish star is thinking about making a comeback that would rekindle his famous battles with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Rafa’s uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal, made a suggestion that the 38-year-old great may play Federer and Djokovic in exhibition matches.  Since Djokovic just stated that his own career is coming to an end, tennis fans find such events to be an enticing possibility.

“I imagine he’d like to do some exhibitions with Federer soon, to give back a little of everything tennis has given him and what tennis has meant to him,” Toni said.  “Seeing the three of them perform again would be incredibly memorable for the public.  Indeed, I believe they will need to take action because, I imagine, others will be inspired to see them perform later.”

Toni thinks Rafa would embrace exhibition matches, even if Nadal hasn’t proposed the idea.  “I’ve known him well enough to know that playing with Federer would delight him.  “You don’t just walk away from that overnight,” he added, referring to the significant role tennis has had in his life.

Federer and Djokovic attended Nadal’s departure ceremony at the Court Philippe Chatrier in Paris. Together, they helped define a golden age in men’s tennis with their two-decade rivalry.  Completing the renowned Big Four, Andy Murray was also present.

Even though his nephew is getting ready for the birth of his second kid and has retired due to health issues, Toni said that 2026 would be the year Nadal returns.  “I believe he will eventually want to resume training and feel like he’s playing the ball well after spending these months away from the courts.  “I have no doubt that he will return to playing very soon,” he stated.

Plans for a Nadal memorial at the Italian Open the following year were revealed by a source from the Italian Tennis Federation.  Ten-time Rome Masters winner Rafael Nadal was aware of the 2024 homage but was reluctant to take part.  It would make sense for us to honor him in 2026, because it’s obvious that Paris has lifted the standard considerably.  Doing something he enjoys will be crucial, the person continued.
