Müller’s Future After Bayern Exit

As Thomas Müller nears the conclusion of his incredible 25-year career with FC Bayern Munich this summer, excitement has swept across the football world.  Müller must now consider his alternatives after the German football giant decided not to extend the deal with their renowned figure.  What will happen to the seasoned forward now that he has other options?

Is Thomas Müller going to try to go to the United States like his countryman Marco Reus did?  Right now, the most likely outcome appears to be a transfer to the MLS.  Los Angeles FC, which is formally associated with FC Bayern, stands out as a viable choice.  According to reports, San Diego and FC Cincinnati are also interested in signing Müller to their teams.  Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets have raised the prominence of the MLS, making it a destination for seasoned players.

Jürgen Klinsmann, the former coach of Germany, thinks it would be worthwhile to keep Müller in the MLS.  “I do believe that the MLS can contribute.  “This league and American football have really developed wonderfully,” Klinsmann said.  “I believe Thomas would fit in well there.”  The coach’s experience, having debuted in the Bundesliga under Klinsmann in 2008, lends credence to the proposal.

But one cannot ignore a move within Europe.  Müller might follow in Mats Hummels’ footsteps, who signed a one-year contract with AS Roma last summer, although reports suggest that a transfer to the Bundesliga is out of the question.

It seems certain that Müller will play for Bayern in the Club World Cup, which begins in the USA on June 14.  He will be given a short-term contract with extra pay for this commitment because his current one only lasts until June 30.  After that, the farewell game that club CEO Dreesen promised may be a moving way to end his playing career.  After they hang up their boots, Müller’s wife Lisa might be in charge of their Otterfing equestrian estate off the field.

Additionally, Bayern Munich sees value in retaining Müller on board, possibly in a club capacity.  Müller recently said, “I am now concentrating entirely on being a player.  We’ll have to wait and see.  At Bayern, we’ve always received sound advice.  It’s a lifestyle.  Müller has also reportedly received offers to work as a TV analyst, and the DFB has expressed interest in integrating him within the organization.

Müller expressed optimism about his connection with Bayern Munich after it was announced that he was leaving the team this summer.  “There isn’t anything bad that still exists between the club and me.  We have our sights set on the future.  To ride the same wave in life, you don’t necessarily have to agree.  We have similar interests and aspirations,” he wrote on his Instagram feed.
