Mount Maunganui T20I Match Abandoned Due to Rain

(Cricket News) The second Twenty20 International in Mount Maunganui on Friday, December 29, was called off after just 11 overs due to rain. Bangladesh sent New Zealand in to bat and got off to an early lead when Shoriful Islam removed Finn Allen, this time by getting him caught at cover.

However, Tim Siefert launched a counterattack, hitting six fours and a six en route to his 23-ball 43, which was eventually ended by a slower ball from Tanzim Hasan Sakib in the eighth over.

When the rains started at 8:00 p.m. local time, the match was well-positioned, with NZ at 72/2 after 11 overs. The game was scheduled to end at 10:28 p.m. for a 5-over match, but the rain continued, forcing the umpires to call the game at 9:55 p.m.

The teams will now play their final Twenty20 International at the same location on New Year’s Eve, which will also be the last of Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand.
