Tensions between Mexican and Argentine supporters have increased as a result of the controversy surrounding Argentina’s Lionel Messi celebration after he scored against Club América. In addition to inflaming antagonism among fans, Mexican sports star Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista responded sharply to this occurrence.
In an Instagram story, Bautista shared a photo of himself avoiding Messi during the 2010 World Cup game, in which Argentina won 3-1, to show his dissatisfaction with Messi. “As a player, I admired you,” he wrote. However, mocking my nation shows how untrained and unprofessional you are.
The Mexican crowd jeered and harassed Messi throughout the game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Frustrated by their animosity, Messi gave an obvious reference to Argentina’s three World Cup victories in response to the jeers after scoring.
The famous football player has not yet responded to Bautista’s criticism of him for this gesture.
In 2010, Bautista was a member of the Mexican team that traveled to South Africa to play Argentina. The former footballer has previously criticized Argentine leaders; most notably, he chastised Fernando Gago for leaving Chivas unexpectedly after accepting a job offer to head Boca Juniors. After calling Gago a “mercenary,” Bautista remarked, “You enter a little club. You are a lousy coach that lacks values and commitment to their profession. Simply tell your new team that you were a member of Mexico’s top team and that you can only be successful by using mercenary tactics.
