(Motorsport News) Despite claims from Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes that a new contract is merely a formality, his current deal set to expire at the end of this season remains unsigned. Recent reports from a British newspaper have shed light on a disagreement between the two parties.
According to the newspaper, Lewis Hamilton currently earns a salary of £27.5m along with a £15m bonus for winning the F1 title. However, in his next contract, he is seeking a guaranteed additional £15m, as per the reports.
Hamilton is aiming for a “long-term” contract, whereas Mercedes is inclined to offer him a one-year deal with the possibility of extending it for a second year.
Additionally, Mercedes is unwilling to agree to Hamilton’s request for a 10-year ambassadorial role worth £10m per year after his F1 career comes to an end.
According to reports, both Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes are keen to continue their relationship and do not want it to come to an end. However, in order to finalize a deal, the seven-time F1 champion is expected to lower his demands.
The Mail has described the current negotiation positions of Hamilton and Mercedes as significantly different. Nevertheless, Sky broadcaster David Croft has expressed optimism and believes that an announcement regarding their new agreement could potentially be made during next month’s F1 British Grand Prix.
