(Tennis news) Daniil Medvedev started his campaign by overcoming Arthur Fery, and he then went on to triumph against Adrian Mannarino and Marton Fucsovics. Jiri Lehecka was his opponent in the fourth round.
In the first game of the match, Daniil Medvedev broke Lehecka’s serve. With a serve break, he strengthened his position and held the advantage to the very end to win the opening set.
Lehecka put up considerable resistance to Daniil Medvedev in the second set, but the former nevertheless broke his serve twice to win the match. Unfortunately, the Russian advanced to the quarterfinals with a final score of 6-4, 6-2, ret. because the Czech was unable to continue after this point.
Christopher Eubanks defeated Thiago Monteiro, Cameron Norrie, and Christopher O’Connell to earn a matchup with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round. The American dropped his serve once more towards the conclusion of the opening set, which he lost after losing an early break.
Although Stefanos Tsitsipas won the third set to retake the lead, Eubanks recovered by winning the second set in a tie-break. The American positioned himself so that his back was against the wall.
Christopher Eubanks won the fourth set with just one serve break. In the deciding set, he had a 2-0 lead, but Tsitsipas rallied to tie the match. The American won the match 3-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 after managing to secure another break to go up 4-3.
Head-to-Head
On a head-to-head basis, Medvedev is ahead of Eubanks 1-0. At the Miami Open in 2023, he defeated them in straight sets.
Predictions
Despite being on the verge of losing, Eubanks defeated Tsitsipas with a spectacular comeback. Although his serve was helpful, his 13 aces were low by his typical norms.
In the previous round, Eubanks also struggled with consistency in return games; if he doesn’t make progress in that area, it could cost him against Medvedev. When Lehecka was forced to depart, Medvedev was still performing admirably.
Eubanks’ type of tennis has the potential to get Medvedev into trouble. He attacks and hits winners fairly effectively with his one-handed backhand. In some of his matches, Medvedev has been a touch passive, but he will need to be more assertive in this match.
Medvedev struggles on grass, and his tenacious play can only get him so far. However, given his total résumé, you cannot dismiss him. He has a history of winning, so if he performs accordingly, he should have no trouble winning. However, if he performs anything less than flawlessly, Eubanks has a chance to carry on his incredible run.
