Mbappé Under Scrutiny After El Clásico

They are worried about Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid. If at the beginning of the season the Frenchman was scoring goals without making much of an impression, he is now failing to do so, and his performance in the El Clasico has allowed those worries to surface.

Diario AS claims that while Mbappe must score goals, his performance on the big stage is “non-negotiable.” Even though Mbappe only had nine offsides this season—47 percent of them in just 8% of his minutes—Barcelona caught him offside eight times during El Clasico. The expression “this Mbappe is not the same as that Mbappe” is circulating through the hallways of Real Madrid as part of the “run-run,” or murmurs of dissatisfaction.

Despite having eight goals this season, Mbappe has only scored one in his last five games and three from the penalty spot. Though he can’t do it every game, that was a screaming out-of-the-box moment. Despite their best efforts to address his fitness during the most recent international break, Los Blancos are still unsure of how to resolve the problem. The other problem, which is even more challenging to resolve, is a mental block.

The 25-year-old is clearly not living up to his name brand, but he has also expressed his distaste for the position he plays and is partially to blame for Real Madrid’s dysfunction. The Real Madrid assault hasn’t connected overall, and it’s obvious that he is not totally at ease, but it doesn’t mean he shouldn’t produce. Carlo Ancelotti’s first priority must be to figure out the answer to that.

Kylian Mbappé’s time at PSG has been filled with highs and lows. As a key player, he has often carried the team’s hopes in crucial matches.
