Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have suffered a setback as their fast bowler Mayank Yadav has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 due to another back injury. In response, LSG have signed New Zealand quick Will O’Rourke as his replacement for INR 3 crore.

Mayank Yadav, who was retained by LSG ahead of the mega auction and was making a comeback to competitive cricket after a hiatus since October 2024, featured in only two IPL matches this season against Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings before the tournament was temporarily suspended.

Known for his high pace and accuracy, which had previously earned him a special fast bowler’s central contract, Mayank had been recovering from a back injury at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. His return was further delayed by a toe infection. Upon his return to the field, his bowling speed had noticeably decreased.

Following Mayank’s comeback match, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan had mentioned that they were in constant communication with the NCA regarding his recovery and were adhering to the prescribed regimen. This IPL stint with LSG marks Will O’Rourke’s debut in the T20 franchise circuit. The New Zealand bowler has played five T20Is for his country, in addition to ten Tests and 17 ODIs.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have also made a replacement, bringing in New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson for the rest of the IPL 2025. Jamieson replaces his fellow New Zealander Lockie Ferguson, who sustained an injury during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in April and was subsequently ruled out indefinitely. Ferguson played four matches for PBKS and took five wickets. Jamieson, who previously played for RCB in 2021 and was part of Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2025, joins PBKS for INR 2 crore.

In other replacement news, Gujarat Titans (GT) have signed Kusal Mendis for INR 75 lakh as a replacement for Jos Buttler, who is set to depart for England’s national duties at the conclusion of the league stage. Mendis will be available to play in the IPL playoffs for GT.
