(Cricket News) Mayank Agarwal has provided a medical update on himself. The Karnataka Ranji Trophy team captain fell ill during a New Delhi-bound flight on Tuesday after mistakenly consuming a liquid from a pouch in front of him, thinking it was water. This resulted in swelling and ulcers in his mouth.
Mayank Agarwal, who boasts 21 Tests for India, had led Karnataka to a 29-run victory over Tripura on Monday. In his absence, vice-captain Nikin Jose is expected to assume the captaincy for the next match against Railways in Surat in a Ranji Trophy game commencing on February 2.
Sharing two images of himself on a hospital bed, Agarwal expressed his gratitude for the support, saying, “I am feeling better now. Gearing to come back. Thank you for prayers, love and support, everyone!”
While the contents of the pouch are yet to be determined, Agarwal has filed a formal complaint with the police, prompting an investigation. Kiran Kumar K, Superintendent of Police of West Tripura, explained, “(Mayank) while sitting on a flight saw a pouch in front of him and, thinking of it as water, drank it. He had swelling and ulcers in his mouth. His condition is normal, and his vitals are stable. His manager has made a complaint. We are registering the complaint and will investigate the matter.”
IndiGo Airlines released a press statement addressing the incident, stating, “IndiGo flight 6E 5177 operating from Agartala to Delhi returned to origin due to a medical emergency onboard. The passenger was off-loaded and was rushed to the hospital for further medical assistance. The aircraft took off again for its destination at 1620h.”
