Punjab Kings (PBKS) allrounder Glenn Maxwell has been fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during PBKS’ home fixture against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday.
Although the IPL has not revealed specific details of the incident, a statement confirmed that Maxwell admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 — “abuse of fixtures and fittings during the match” — and accepted the match referee’s sanction.
Maxwell, who came in to bat at No. 6 after PBKS chose to bat first, was dismissed by R Ashwin, caught and bowled on just his second delivery. Despite his early departure, PBKS posted an imposing 219 for 6, courtesy of Priyansh Arya’s explosive 103 off 42 balls and strong finishes from Shashank Singh (52* off 35) and Marco Jansen (34* off 19). PBKS successfully defended the total, winning by 18 runs. Maxwell also contributed with the ball, claiming the wicket of Rachin Ravindra during CSK’s chase.
So far, Maxwell has struggled to find top form in IPL 2025, with a first-ball duck in the season opener against Gujarat Titans and a 30 off 21 in a losing effort against Rajasthan Royals. However, he has managed to claim three wickets in PBKS’ first four games, all of which have resulted in wins.
PBKS will next be in action on Saturday when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad away from home.
