(Cricket news) The ICC T20 World Cup ended a few days ago but the T20 fever is still high among the spectators. The batters and bowlers are having a record breaking year as two batters have scored more than 800 runs for the first time and two bowlers have taken more than 35 wickets for the first time. The shortest format is one of the fastest evolving games in the sport and has produced many great batters and bowlers. In the batters records, the top 10 leading run getters consist of two left handers and Pakistan has the most players in the list with three. Here are the top four run getters in the format.
Virat Kohli: India
Kohli has scored 3227 runs in 95 matches and also has scored 29 half centuries which is the most by any batter. He has been India’s star batter for over a decade. The young aggressive player in his early days has slowly transformed to a man who has led the team in all the formats. With his captaincy coming to an end, Kohli can focus solely on his batting and can target the 4000 run mark by next year.
Martin Guptill: New Zealand
Guptill is currently in the form of his life in T20 matches as he has scored 596 runs in 16 matches this year. He needs 11 more runs to overtake Kohli as the leading run scorer in the game and is currently playing the T20 series against India. Known for his style and power, the 35 year old has crossed all expectations this year with his exploits in the last few months. He holds the record for the most number of sixes with 159 maximums.
Rohit Sharma: India
One of the most experienced players in the format, Rohit has played 117 matches which is the third most by a player. He has scored 3086 runs and has scored the most centuries in the format with 4 triple digit scores. Also known as the hitman, Rohit can smack the ball hard into the stands with a steady bat swing. The current Indian captain will look to close in on Guptill and Kohli in the remaining two matches of the series.
Aaron Finch: Australia
Finch has scored 2608 runs in 83 matches and led the team to victory at the ICC T20 World Cup a few days back. Finch holds the record for the highest score in an innings when he scored a near impossible 172 against Zimbabwe in 2018, he is one of the powerful batters in the world and can clear long boundaries comfortably.
