(Cricket news) The 2024 Australian Cricket Awards saw Mitchell Marsh and Ashleigh Gardner emerge as notable winners. Marsh became the first all-rounder since Shane Watson in 2011 to win the Allan Border Medal, while Gardner received her second Belinda Clark Award.
Gardner received 147 votes to finish ahead of Ellyse Perry (134 votes) and Annabel Sutherland (106 votes), while Marsh gathered 223 votes, 79 more than Pat Cummins, who had a very spectacular year himself.
Marsh had a spectacular 2023, which started with a century in the third Ashes test and then played some valuable knocks in the World Cup including a career-best 177* against Bangladesh. Gardner, who had figures of 12 for 165 against England, the second-best in women’s Test history, took more wickets than any of her teammates throughout the period (56 scalps at 19.39 in 30 matches).
Nathan Lyon won the Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year for his amazing performances in the red-ball format. He recently completed his 500th test match wicket which itself tells what a legend he is.
Ellyse Perry, won both the Women’s T20I and Women’s ODI Player of the Year awards while Marsh, who excelled as an opener and one-down player in white-ball formats, also earned the Men’s ODI Player of the Year award. Jason Behrendorff received the Men’s T20I Player of the Year award.
