Manchester United set to make a transfer worth €100m for Real’s midfielder

During this summer's transfer window, Manchester United is reportedly prepared to pay €100 million (£85 million) for Federico Valverde, a midfielder for Real Madrid, who the Red Devils see as a game-changing addition

(Football news) Valverde, 26, has again been in outstanding form for Real Madrid during the 2024-25 campaign, making 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals, and registering seven assists in the process.

The Uruguay international has been used at right-back in the latter stages of this season’s Champions League, excelling in that position, but he is regarded as one of the best central midfielders in world football.

Valverde last signed a contract extension with Real Madrid in November 2023, with his deal running until June 2029, but Manchester United are said to be planning a spectacular move for him during the summer market.

According to multiple reports, the 20-time English champions are preparing to launch a €100m (£85m) move.

Manchester United ‘preparing £85m move for Valverde’

The report claims that Manchester United views him as the ideal character to bring into the club and would therefore be prepared to pay out a significant sum in order to secure his services.

Valverde made the move to Real Madrid from Penarol in 2015, initially representing Real Madrid B before making his first-team debut in 2017, and he has since established himself as a vital player for Los Blancos.

The midfielder has 305 Real Madrid appearances to his name, scoring 29 goals and registering 30 assists in the process, and he is bidding to help Carlo Ancelotti’s side win a treble this season.

Los Blancos are currently second in the La Liga table, three points behind the leaders, Barcelona, while they are in the final of the Copa del Rey and quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Could Manchester United really sign Valverde this summer?

While a €100m (£85m) should not be overlooked, it is unlikely to be anywhere near enough to convince Real Madrid to let Valverde leave, as the South American is one of their most important players.

It is obvious why Manchester United are keen on the midfielder considering his energy, work-rate and ability on the ball, and he does look to be the perfect fit for the Premier League.

If the Red Devils could somehow pull it off, then it has the potential to be a transformative signing for the 20-time English champions, and he could thrive alongside Bruno Fernandes in the engine room.

However, so many things would need to fall into place for Man United to sign him, including the club winning this season’s Europa League to secure a spot in the 2025-26 Champions League.
