Manchester United receive a injury boost just before their Palace match

Victor Lindelof, who has missed the first few games of the season due to a toe injury, has resumed training with Manchester United, the team has announced
Manchester

(Football news) Lindelof was involved in the first half of Manchester United’s friendly with Liverpool over the summer, but he was replaced at the interval of that contest after suffering an issue with his toe.

The Sweden international is yet to feature for the 20-time English champions this term, and he was linked with a move away from Old Trafford over the summer.

However, the centre-back stayed with Erik ten Hag’s side past the transfer deadline, and it has now been revealed that he is back in training ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at Crystal Palace.

“Victor Lindelof has resumed training with the Manchester United squad. The Sweden captain has been absent after suffering a toe problem,” read a statement from the club alongside images of Lindelof in training.

Lindelof returns to first-team training for Manchester United

Lindelof has been with Manchester United since 2017, arriving at the club from Benfica, and he has represented the Red Devils on 259 occasions in all competitions, including 28 outings last term.

The 30-year-old is likely to find it difficult to secure regular action in 2024-25, though, as he has dropped down the pecking order following the club’s summer transfer business.

Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire are both ahead of him in the pecking order, while Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro were signed over the summer to boost the team’s defence.

Yoro is yet to make his debut, having suffered a fractured metatarsal during pre-season, but De Ligt has made a strong start to his Manchester United career and scored against Southampton last weekend.

What has Ten Hag said about Manchester United’s injury situation?

Manchester United struggled with a whole host of injury issues last season, but with Lindelof now returning and Tyrell Malacia able to take part in the warm-up part of Friday’s session, the problems are easing.

Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount are set to return to the squad for Saturday’s clash with Palace, and Ten Hag has indicated that he could decide to start the duo.

“You can’t avoid [injuries]. There are so many circumstances that you don’t have any influence on, and that can always happen,” the Red Devils told reporters when questioned on the work that is being done at the club to reduce the injury problems.

“But there are also circumstances where you can take control. We did some reviewing over the summer, and, yeah, we are still working on improvements all the time to take control as much as possible.”

Manchester United will enter Saturday’s clash with Palace off the back of a 7-0 victory over Barnsley in the third round of the EFL Cup.
