(Football news) In what has been a very poor start to the Premier League for the Red Devils, Eriksen has been one of the standout performers for Erik Ten Hag’s side this term.

The Denmark international had a tough time securing playing minutes last season and was linked with several moves away from Manchester during the summer transfer window.

However, the 32-year-old seems to have regained his place in the squad in the current campaign, having already made nine appearances across all competitions, notching up three goals and as many assists during that period.

Yet, despite Eriksen’s impressive form for Manchester United this season, his future with Manchester United is still far from certain.

Eriksen admits future at Old Trafford is uncertain

Eriksen is currently in the final year of his contract with the Red Devils, and unless he signs a new deal, he will be set to leave Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of the season.

Ahead of United’s Europa League match against Fenerbahce on Thursday, the Dane joined Ten Hag at the pre-match press conference and was questioned about his future with the club.

He said, “It’s not really up to me when my contract runs out; it’s up to the club.

“I am enjoying it here. When the summer comes, if the offer is there, I will definitely take it seriously.”

When asked about his role in Ten Hag’s system, Eriksen replied, “You know our tactics? I like it. For me, it doesn’t matter the system you’re playing. Every game you’ll see a 4-2-3-1, a 4-4-2, a 4-5-1, all of it.”

Eriksen recently disclosed during his time with his national team that contract negotiations are not currently taking place, but as per multiple reports, the Denmark international is calm about the situation at this point in the season.

Eriksen is crucial to the Manchester United squad this season

Eriksen has experienced a resurgence this season and is one of only three fit midfielders who have travelled to Turkey for the third installment of Manchester United’s Europa League campaign.

The 32-year-old has already had a significant impact on his team’s performances in Europe, scoring in the 1-1 draw against FC Twente and providing two assists in the thrilling 3-3 match against Porto.

When quizzed about his recent increase in playing time due to his rise in form, the Dane was keen to remain grounded, saying, “Some games you play and some you don’t.

“I’ve been in and out the last two seasons, but I definitely enjoy playing for Manchester United. The manager makes the decisions about about who is playing, and you do your best when you can.”

The Manchester United number 14 also mentioned that he anticipates a very hostile atmosphere at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Thursday, adding that he enjoys such situations because they motivate the players.
