(Football news) The 23-year-old, who moved to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in the final stages of the summer transfer window, limped off the field in the 82nd minute of Uruguay’s 0-0 draw with Ecuador.
It had initially been thought that he had damaged his ankle, but Ugarte was also seen holding his thigh, and the nature of the issue is yet to be addressed by either his national side or club team.
However, the sight will be a concern for Manchesterchester United ahead of their return to action against Brentford this weekend.
According to multiple reports, Ugarte is due to return to Manchester on Wednesday and is likely to be back at the club’s Carrington training complex on Thursday for a medical examination.
Ugarte suffered potential injury while representing Uruguay
The midfielder has had a slow start to his Manchester United career, with head coach Erik ten Hag easing him into action.
Ugarte has made five appearances for the 20-time English champions, but he has only started once in the Premier League, which came in the 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of September.
The South American has since been an unused substitute in Manchester United’s games with Porto and Aston Villa, with Ten Hag previously admitting that it will take time for the new signing to get used to his new surroundings.
Nine other Manchester United players are either doubts or definitely missing for Brentford clash
Manchester United will again definitely be missing Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia for the clash with Brentford, while Noussair Mazraoui is out for the next “few weeks,” having had a minor heart operation.
Luke Shaw has not played this season due to a calves problem and is also likely to be absent again this weekend, while Harry Maguire is facing a spell on the sidelines with the problem that he suffered against Aston Villa.
Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Kobbie Mainoo did not represent their countries during the October international break, with the former unwell and the latter two carrying slight injuries.
However, all three are expected to be cleared to take to the field on Saturday afternoon, while the club is also hopeful that Mason Mount could return after recently being sidelined with a head injury and a knock.
Man United have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, picking up just eight points from their opening seven matches of the campaign, which has left them down in the 14th spot in the Premier League table.
