Manchester United may consider UCL-winning manager as ETH replacement

According to reports, Manchester United is considering adding Thomas Tuchel to the team to take Erik ten Hag's spot
Manchester

(Football news) The Dutchman is under severe pressure at the Theatre of Dreams currently, with the Red Devils enduring their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Collecting just eight points from their opening seven top-flight fixtures, Manchester United sit 14th in the standings of England’s top table of football.

Apart from an EFL Cup success over League One Barnsley at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have only managed to beat Fulham and newly promoted Southampton this campaign.

Frustration for supporters continued in the Second City at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, when Manchester United played out a goalless draw with Aston Villa.

Manchester United consider Tuchel a prime contender for the head coach role?

According to various reports and news, Manchester United are going through their options as they ponder the possibility of wielding the managerial axe on Ten Hag.

The report claims that former Chelsea boss Tuchel is considered a ‘prime contender’ to take the reins from a stuttering and stumbling Dutchman.

It is understood that Manchester United were interested in securing the services of the German in the summer, entering talks with his representatives.

A move to the Theatre of Dreams never materialised for the 51-year-old, though, with Manchester United deciding to trigger the one-year extension in Ten Hag’s contract.

It is believed that a number of Manchester United’s other top targets are currently in managerial positions, making out-of-work Tuchel a leading contender.

Tuchel’s recent history

Manchester United target Tuchel has been out of employment since leaving German giants Bayern Munich at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

The 51-year-old will be unfortunately remembered in Bavarian and across the country as the man who led Bayern to something other than a Bundesliga title in 2023-24, with Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen lifting the domestic crown.

Tuchel is known to fall out with members of the hierarchy at these former employers, including in West London at United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea.

That being said, the German has a CV packed with successes, such as the 2020-21 Champions League glory with the Blues, who upset the odds to beat Manchester City in the European final.
