(Football news) Head coach Erik ten Hag is currently battling to retain his job at Old Trafford courtesy of spearheading the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.
That is despite the Dutchman having been provided with the funds to make several high-profile additions during the summer window.
Two of the arrivals came from Bayern, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt, who have previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax, making the switch to Old Trafford.
Nevertheless, according to multiple reports, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club’s recruitment team are considering making more raids on the squad at the Bundesliga giants.
Davies among players on radar
The report suggests that Manchester United are monitoring the contractual situations with each of Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka, and Leroy Sane.
Each of Davies and Sane have less than a year remaining on their respective deals and appear increasingly likely to reach the start of 2025 having not penned a renewal.
Meanwhile, Goretzka is tied to the Allianz Arena until 2026, only for the Germany international to no longer be regarded as a first-choice pick in the engine room.
As such, all three players may theoretically be available for transfers in the January window, the former two in terms of a cut-price fee or a pre-contract agreement.
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany and club officials may take a firmer stance with Davies, who is a regular starter and has been heavily linked with a transfer to Real Madrid.
However, neither Goretzka nor Sane are yet to make a Bundesliga or Champions League start in 2024-25, emphasising where they are viewed in the pecking order.
Who would be an ideal signing for Manchester United?
Given the long-term injury issues of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Manchester United would choose the acquisition of Davies if they could only select one of the aforementioned three.
That said, the Canadian international moving to the Theatre of Dreams is also unrealistic at this stage when Real Madrid have been admirers for more than a year.
Goretzka would be joining a midfield contingent where he is unlikely to be first choice, although former Manchester City winger Sane may be a player who slots seamlessly into the team ahead of Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho.
