(Football news) Manchester United are set to face a third Spanish opponent in a row after they drew 6 time Europa League champions Sevilla in the quarter-finals. Erik ten Hag’s side have already beaten Barcelona and Real Betis in the Europa League Round of 16 but now they will face Seville next month for the last-eight. Should United beat Sevilla, they will face the winner of Juventus vs Sporting as the Portugal team knocked out Arsenal on Thursday.
Elsewhere in the draw, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma face Feyenoord in a repeat of last year’s Europa Conference League final. While Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen will take on Union Saint-Gilloise which is subsequently the sister club of Premier League side Brighton. United will have their work cut out as Europa League experts, Sevilla who have won six editions of the tournament since 2006. The most recent win from the Andalucian side came in 2020, which saw Sevilla beat United in the Europa League semi finals.
High flying Sporting face another difficult test as they face Juventus who are looking to earn direct qualification into the Champions League by winning the trophy. For Juventus this competition is very important since they are 10 points behind the top four after their 15 points deduction this season. Another Italian side AS Roma face a similar opponent in Feyenoord who last round made a statement by beating a strong Shakhtar Donetsk side 7-1. Jose Mourinho will look to reach his second straight European final this season after he guided his team to the Conference league title and will hope to upgrade to the Europa League trophy this season.
