(Football news) The 59th-minute goal sealed a 1-0 victory for Erik ten Hag’s team in their last game before the November international break. The Sweden international, who was brought back into the starting lineup because of Jonny Evans’s injury, bashed the ball into the net.
After the outcome, Man United is now only three points behind fourth-place Liverpool in the Premier League standings, sitting in sixth place. Luton, on the other hand, is still in 17th place after four games played, having only collected six points.
Despite receiving a red card against Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Marcus Rashford did not lose his starting position. As a result, the England international became the youngest player to reach 250 Premier League games for the Red Devils.
In the tenth minute of the match, Rashford’s cross from the right was diverted into Rasmus Hojlund, giving Man United a chance to take the lead. However, Thomas Kaminski of Luton amazingly stopped Hojlund’s close-range shot, which bounced off his leg.
Next up to try his luck was midfielder Scott McTominay, who headed a cross from Diogo Dalot over the crossbar from within the penalty area. After racing into the penalty box in the 20th minute, Alejandro Garnacho missed a shot over the crossbar, as Man United took the lead at Old Trafford.
The first save made by Man United goalkeeper Andre Onana came in the 22nd minute, and it was a simple one as the Cameroonian turned away a long-range attempt from Chiedozie Ogbene.
In the twenty-fourth minute, Bruno Fernandes attempted to score again, but his shot was blocked from close range. Hojlund then succeeded in forcing his way into a shooting position.
In the thirty-first minute, Rashford then saw his drive deflected beyond of the Luton goal, but Onana then made an incredible stop to deny Carlton Morris’ diving header at the opposite end.
In the forty-first minute, Garnacho found space inside the Luton box and had a great opportunity to put Man United ahead. However, after beating Kaminski, he was simply pushed out by two Luton defenders.
