Manchester United bounce back with comfortable home win over Burnley

(Football news) It has been a tough month for Manchester United. The team had won at Crystal Palace after Ralf Rangnick's appointment. Since then they got a very narrow and unimpressive win against Norwich City after which they had two games cancelled due to a COVID outbreak. They came back to action away at Newcastle and drew the game after a lackluster display.

With Bruno Fernandes suspended against Burnley, Rangnick played in a 4-4-2 with Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani up front. He also reverted back to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw instead of Diogo Dalot and Alex Tellas who had been first choice for a while. Although United were a bit leaky they had more control of the ball. The presence of Namanja Matic in midfield calmed things down when necessary.

The Red Devils scored 3 goals in the first 35 minutes. The first scorer was Scott Mctominay who scored from long range after a heavy touch by Ronaldo. The 2nd goal came when Jadon Sancho made his way through the penalty area and his shot produced an own goal off Ben Mee. Mctominay again shot from outside the box which was saved by Wayne Hennessey but Ronaldo pounced on the rebound. Burnley did get one goal back through Aaron Lenon but couldn't create any other significant chances.

United's aggressive approach did drop a bit in the 2nd half but the two goal cushion was enough to secure 3 points. They are now 6th on the table, four points behind 4th place Arsenal with a game in hand. Manchester United's next game is at the Old Trafford against Wolves. Burnley on the other hand have dropped to the relegation zone and will play fellow relegation threatened Leeds United.
