(Football news) The 20-year-old has been a key player for Lecce this season, making 23 appearances in all competitions, including 21 outings in Serie A, but he was an unused substitute against Parma in Serie A on Friday night.

Giampolo revealed after the match that he did not select Dorgu due to his imminent move to Manchester United, with the 20-time English champions set to confirm his arrival before the end of the weekend.

“It’s true,” it was told to reporters. “Patrick Dorgu will be flying to Manchester on Saturday. He’s a fantastic player and guy. He always did his best for us. I didn’t play him tonight as his mind could be already there, Old Trafford.”

Dorgu has already come to an agreement with the Red Devils over personal terms, and his medical is expected to take place on Saturday, while it is possible that he could be presented to the fans ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Lecce head coach confirms Dorgu is heading for Manchester United

The defender appeared to wave goodbye to the Lecce supporters following their clash with Parma, and he is set to make the move to Manchester United in a deal worth €30m (£25.1m) plus €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons.

Dorgu will leave Lecce having made 57 appearances for the Italian outfit, scoring five times and registering two assists in the process, and he will battle for the starting role down the left.

The left-back will not be involved in Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Palace on Sunday afternoon, but he could feature in their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Leicester City on February 7.

Will Manchester United make any further signings in January?

Manchester United are pushing to bring another player to Old Trafford before the end of the January transfer window, with Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel seen as a loan target for the 20-time English champions.

Tel has allegedly rejected the chance to make the move to Tottenham Hotspur, but Manchester United could bring him to the Premier League before Monday night’s deadline.

Marcus Rashford continues to be linked with a late departure, but the England international has seen a proposed switch to Barcelona break down, while Alejandro Garnacho is wanted by Chelsea, Napoli and Tottenham.

The Red Devils are also expecting to announce a deal for Arsenal youngster Ayden Heaven in the near future, with the highly-rated 18-year-old set to complete a switch to Old Trafford.
