Malan shortlisted for high performance coaching role in BCB

(Cricket News) Heinrich Malan, Ireland’s head coach is one of the candidates shortlisted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board for the role of High Performance Unit’s head coach. The post at the BCB is currently vacant after David Hemp has joined the senior national side as a batting coach.

Hemp was appointed as Bangladesh’s batting coach earlier this year, after serving at the HP unit since May last year. In the absence of a High Performance head coach, BCB is now desperate to fill the vacant seat as soon as possible.

Malan is one of the four candidates who is being considered for the role. The high performance program of the Bangladesh cricket board is expected to start in the mid of May, before which the board will look to crack a deal. Apart from Malan, BCB is also considering three other names- Gavan Twining (Australia) Nathan Hauritz (Australia) and Paul Adams (South Africa).

Malan when asked about this assignment did not rule entirely out the possibility of joining hands with the BCB. Malan is a former South African first class cricketer who has played for the Notherns. He however did not manage to make it to the South African national side in his career.

Malan holds some experience when it comes to the coaching set-up. He has worked with the New Zealand side as a batting coach and an assistant coach. He is currently the head coach of the Irish national side.

“We will take the interview of the shortlisted coaches for the HP unit head in the coming week,” BCB HP Unit chairman Naimur Rahman told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

Malan might not be available from the start of the HP camp as he is expected to guide the Ireland national cricket team in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled in USA and West Indies from June, therefore it would be interesting to see whether the BCB would go for him.
