(Cricket news) England's white ball skipper Eoin Morgan has retired from international cricket. Morgan's decision is little surprising considering that there is a T20I World Cup in just 4 months time. Morgan was really struggling to find form and score runs for England for quite some time now. There was never a possibility that the 35-year-old would relinquish his captaincy to continue as a player so retirement was the only option. Morgan leaves behind an incredible legacy as one of the best whiteball captains England has ever had. 

Morgan played 3 years of international cricket for Ireland before switching his allegiance to England. Since then, he has played 379 matches across all 3 formats and scored 10000 runs. Morgan was appointed the captain of the ODI team just 2 months before the 2015 World Cup after Alistair Cook was removed due to poor form. The World Cup turned out to be a total disaster as England managed to win only 2 of the 6 games and were knocked out of the group stage. Morgan's personal form was also below par but things soon improved as the team started to take shape and play a certain brand of cricket. He led the England team that played the final of the T20I 2016 World Cup. 

His biggest triumph came when he captained the England side to their first World Cup win in 2019. The end to his international career has been a little anticlimactic but his career has been an incredible one. Morgan has left a great ODI team for the next captain to take over. Jos Buttler is likely to take over as the limited overs captain with Ben Stokes being red ball captain. On his retirement, Morgan said "I'm hugely proud of what I have achieved, but what I will cherish and remember most are the memories I made with some of the greatest people I know." Morgan will most likely continue to play domestic T20I tournaments for a few years before moving on to the next phase of his life.
