Salah 8th consecutive at home keeps Liverpool's slim Champions League hopes alive
Liverpool get a narrow win over Fulham

(Football news) Mohamed Salah scored yet another penalty to keep Liverpool’s slim hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League alive. They cruised to a 1-0 win over Fulham at Anfield as the win subsequently lifts Liverpool to 59 points, four behind Manchester United in 4th but the Red Devils have two games in hand over the Merseyside club, while Fulham are experiencing a torrid time with injuries and suspension which has resulted in them falling to 10th on 45 points after a promising start to the Premier League season.

Fulham had the game’s first big chance of the game when Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius forced Alisson Becker into a good save but a moment of lapse in concentration from Issa Diop saw them fall behind. The former West Ham centre back allowed a pass to run across his body, as Darwin Nunez was quick to pounce on the error and made the most of his indecisiveness to take the ball away as Diop instead hacked him down, the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Salah smashed the spot kick straight down the middle to extend his streak of scoring.

Despite the likes of Salah, Nunez and Luis Diaz on the pitch, Liverpool struggled offensively as Bernd Leno made some important saves to keep Fulham in the game. Vinicius had the best chance of the match to equalise when Vinicius was deflected but Alisson made a good save. The visitors had one big final chance which fell to substitute Bobby Decordova-Reid, but Virgil van Dijk’s presence made sure that he fired his shot wide as Liverpool held on for a fifth straight win.
