(Football news) Liverpool will continue their quest for a Champions League spot when they take on Leicester City at Anfield on Friday night/Saturday morning. The Reds recently defeated Aston Villa 3-1 on Boxing Day while the Foxes were defeated 3-0 by in-form team Newcastle United. Liverpool recently signed Cody Gakpo but he won’t feature in this fixture but can take solace in the fact that Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic scored in the last match.

The Reds are currently sixth in the Premier League but Tottenham Hotspur’s draw against Brentford means that they are just five points behind Antonio Conte’s team, who have played a game more. Liverpool have lost only one home game in 31 Premier League matches, which was against Leeds United two months ago and the last time they failed to score at Anfield was in March 2021. As for Leicester City, Brendan Roger’s side are 13th in the league table with a four point lead over the relegation zone. After a disappointing start to the season, Leicester City have turned their fortunes around with wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and West Ham United.

In team news, Liverpool will be without Arthur, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz while Roberto Firmino is also doubtful due to a calf injury. James Milner (hamstring) and Curtis Jones (shin) might be fit in time for Liverpool’s match against Brentford on January 2nd but Ibrahima Konate could feature in the starting lineup this time around along with Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho. As for Leicester, Dennis Praet, Ryan Bertrand, Ricardo Pereira. James Justin, Jonny Evans and James Maddison are unavailable which means Rogers will have to rotate his squad. A straightforward victory for Liverpool seems like the most likely result from this fixture.
