(Football news) After a 5 game winless streak, Liverpool got wins away at Leeds and at home against Nottingham Forest. Liverpool continued their good run as they defeated West Ham 2-1 at the London Stadium. Jurgen Klopp’s men have turned up for the last part of the season to challenge for a top 4 spot. Liverpool started with a front three of Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Mohamad Salah while Darwin Nunez was once again on the bench. Thiago and Luis Diaz were also on the bench having recently returned from their respective injuries. West Ham on the other hand left Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini on the bench.

Liverpool started the game well but West Ham scored against the run of play. Lucas Paqueta played a couple of one-twos with Michail Antonio before firing the ball past Allison. Liverpool responded immediately as Cody Gakpo scored a brilliant goal from outside the box. Both teams had a few very good chances before the end of the first half but it was still 1-1 at the break.

In the 56th minute Jarrod Bowen turned Virgil Van Dijk before finding the back of the net but the goal was ruled out for offside. In the 67th minute Andy Robertson’s corner was headed home by Joel Matip to make it 2-1 to Liverpool. At the very end the ball hit Thiago’s hand in the box but the referee didn’t even check the VAR monitor which angered the West Ham fans.

Now that Liverpool’s injury issues have reduced they look to be back playing some really good football. The Merseyside club have fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa who are challenging them for European spots. The season has been disappointing for Liverpool but it will be some achievement if they manage to get top 4 from this position.

West Ham on the other hand are in a very intense relegation battle but they should be able to survive the drop. They still have to face Manchester City and Manchester United but the fixtures against relegation rivals Leeds and Leicester City become important. The Hammers also have a Europa Conference League semi final which will make things complicated.
