(Cricket News) The Bangladesh keeper-batter Liton Das has been dropped from the Bangladesh squad for the third ODI against Sri Lanka. He has been released from the squad and will head to play the ongoing Dhaka Premier League.
Another wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali has been named as his replacement. Ali was impressive in the first T20 against Sri Lanka and scored a well made 68. He has scored more than 1900 runs in List A cricket, in 84 appearances at an average of 34.87.
Liton failed with the bat in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. He only managed to pile up 43 runs in the 3 matches, with 36 being his highest. He was out without scoring in the first two ODIs as well. His inconsistency and failures with bat has now compelled the team management to leave him out of the side. He has been dropped from the squad for the first time since 2021.
In the previous 14 ODIS, since the ODI World Cup Liton has scored just 313 runs, which consists of just two 50+ scores and zero hundreds. His batting average has dropped significantly to less than 25.
“With the series now hanging in the balance, we believe Jaker Ali’s addition will provide the team with more options and flexibility in the middle order,” Gazi Ashraf Hossain, the chairman of the Bangladesh selection panel was quoted as saying in a BCB release. “Considering Liton’s recent performance in white-ball cricket, we opted for this change, mindful of the availability of two other capable openers within the squad.”
