Ireland’s white-ball series against England will be captained by Gaby Lewis, who has recovered from a quad strain she suffered in the first ODI against Sri Lanka earlier this month. Laura Delany, the regular captain, is still recovering from an ankle ligament injury she suffered during the second Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka.
After making her ODI debut against Sri Lanka, Alice Tector was selected for her first-ever T20I squad. She is Harry Tector’s sister, the batter for the Ireland men. After suffering an injury in the opening Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka, Una Raymond-Hoey was added back to both white-ball squads. Earlier this month, she had made her comeback to international cricket following a five-year break.
“We are disappointed that Laura’s injury is more serious than first thought, and her years of experience and leadership will be missed,” national selector Ciara O’Brien said. “However, Gaby has led before in Laura’s absence. We’re very comfortable with her stepping in to lead for the England series and know that she will bring her impeccable high standards to the role.
“This is a young side, with an average age of less than 22 years, and we hope that all Irish cricket fans to turn up and support the team.”
Lewis is the second-most experienced player behind Delany and Ireland’s top run scorer in T20Is, having amassed 119 off 75 balls in the second T20I against Sri Lanka. Ireland won their first-ever ODI series against Sri Lanka under her captaincy, earning them their first points in the Women’s Championship 2022–25.
Of the fourteen players, twelve are part of both white-ball teams. Ava Canning and Christina Coulter Reilly are only included in the T20I squad, whereas Alana Dalzell and Joanna Loughran are only included in the ODIs.
Ireland and England will play three ODIs – part of the Women’s Championship – in Belfast before moving to Dublin for three T20Is.
