Lewis Hall signs for Newcastle United

Lewis Hall of Chelsea has agreed to join Newcastle on a temporary loan, with a purchase option in the summer

(Football news) In November 2022, the Blues’ 18-year-old made his Premier League debut against Newcastle, losing 1-0. Hall will transfer to St James’ Park on loan right away, and a £28 million price tag plus £7 million in add-ons will be activated to sign him permanently next summer.

“He’s a player I like – very versatile with really good potential,” said Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.

Before the agreement was finalised, Howe stated that, barring any injuries, Hall would be the only player the Magpies signed this summer. Hall’s contract includes a sell-on provision for Chelsea in case he decides to leave Newcastle.

The England Under-21 international is most known for playing left back, but during his tenure at Stamford Bridge, he has also played on the wing and in midfield. In all competitions last season, he made 11 appearances for Chelsea, including nine in the Premier League. He is the club’s 2023 Academy Player of the Year.

This summer, the team was completely rebuilt by Mauricio Pochettino, the new Chelsea manager. Four players went on loan, while 13 players were allowed to depart permanently.

Newcastle, however, spent almost £130 million this summer on Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento, and Yankuba Minteh.

As Newcastle defeated Aston Villa 5-1 at St. James’ Park on Saturday, midfielder Tonali, who arrived from AC Milan, scored on his debut. Barnes, who joined from Leicester, also scored in his first league game for the Magpies.

Howe said the commencement of Tonali was crucial since it calms everyone down when discussing its effects. You could see the emotion erupting when he scored.

“The rest of his performance followed that, where he was excellent. Hopefully now he’ll feel the love of the supporters and there will be an instant connection – that can only help him.”

Saturday’s Premier League match between Newcastle and Manchester City is set to begin at 20:00 BST at the Etihad.

Howe is aiming for a strong showing against the Premier League champions, who defeated Sevilla on penalties to win the Uefa Super Cup on Wednesday. Newcastle has lost 17 of their past 19 league meetings with City and is winless in their last 19 league visits to City.

“They went into a tough game [in the Super Cup] and were desperate to win, you could see their reactions afterwards. This is a team that will not be complacent. They will be ready for us so we expect a really good game,” Howe said.

“We want to become a top team consistently in the Premier League and to do that we have to have a clear identity and try to implement that on other teams.”
