Lawson will fill in for AlphaTauri F1 until Ricciardo is available

At this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, Liam Lawson will take the wheel once more for the AlphaTauri Formula 1 team while Daniel Ricciardo continues to recover from a broken hand.

(Motorsports news) After colliding in second practice at Zandvoort, the Australian has been sidelined by an injury three races into his return to Formula 1. To shunt into the barrier, Lawson locked the front wheels into the banking Turn 3. He suffered a broken metacarpal in his left hand as a result of the steering wheel moving violently upon collision.

Ricciardo underwent “metal work” and surgery on Sunday in Barcelona, where he is thought to have received care from famous MotoGP physician Doctor Xavier Mir. AlphaTauri stated on Monday that Lawson will fill in for Ricciardo “until he is fully fit.” The group issued a statement in which they expressed their happiness that Daniel’s operation went well and that he is currently recovering.

We can announce that Liam, who performed admirably in challenging conditions in Zandvoort, will continue to drive alongside Yuki beginning with our home race this weekend in Monza. We hope to see him at the track again very soon. After taking part in three FP1 sessions with Red Bull and AlphaTauri last season, Lawson made his F1 race debut on Sunday.

The second-placed driver in the Super Formula standings, who is vying for the championship, ended the Dutch Grand Prix in 13th place, ahead of teammate Yuki Tsunoda in 16th. Franz Tost, the CEO of AlphaTauri, said on Sunday that Lawson would be transferred to a simulator this week in preparation for the Monza race. The injury to Ricciardo occurs before a busy stretch of competition. This weekend is the Italian Grand Prix, followed by a week off before the Singapore and Japan doubleheader.

“Hey everyone,” Ricciardo wrote on Instagram following surgery. I had surgery this morning, which is very cool, and I also got my first piece of metal work.Franz Tost, the CEO of AlphaTauri, said on Sunday that Lawson would be transferred to a simulator this week in preparation for the Monza race.

“Many thanks to everyone who got in touch and helped me stay positive. This is not a setback; rather, it is all a part of the recovery. Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull team, said he thought Ricciardo planned to resume racing in Singapore but emphasized that “nature will take its course.” He said to Sky Sports: “Talking with him last night, that’s what he was most unhappy about.

“He simply took a lot of time off, and now he’s back on the bench getting his mojo back. I imagine his frustration came from that.”I believe he believed that they had made some progress with the car and that it was unfortunate for him. But I’m certain that he has Singapore as a target in the back of his mind.

However, Singapore is undoubtedly one of the most challenging tracks on the schedule. However, nature will run its course. It’s a fairly clean break, he continued, and after that, it all depends on how long the recovery will take. “A normal human would likely be between 10 and 12 weeks, but we are aware that these men aren’t typical.

Therefore, everything will revolve around the recovery process and how long it will take. Will it take three weeks, a month, or six weeks? Nobody truly is aware.
