Knee Injury Forces Tom Curran to End BBL Season Prematurely

(Cricket News) Due to a knee injury sustained during the Sixers’ previous game against the Melbourne Stars, Tom Curran will miss the final two regular-season games as the team looks to secure a postseason berth. Curran was not expected to be available for the BBL finals due to his ILT20 commitments. The Desert Vipers begin their campaign on January 21.

Curran, who was banned for four games for intimidating fourth umpire Muhammad Qureshi when he practiced pre-match run-ups on the field in Launceston despite being told not to, has had his BBL tournament disrupted.

“The full extent of the injury is currently unknown with Curran set to return to the UK in the coming days and undergo further assessment at home,” a Sixers statement said. Curran appealed the sanction, but it was upheld.

Curran remarked, “I am truly sorry that I chose to practice my run up in the direction of Umpire Qureshi and if he ever thought I sought to make physical contact with him.” Curran had the greatest game of the season when he claimed 3 for 19 against the Hobart Hurricanes.

In addition to losing James Vince for the finals due to his ILT20 deal with Gulf Giants, the Sixers will have Steven Smith available against Sydney Thunder on Friday. Hayden Kerr may be able to return to the team depending on the balance they choose.
