(Football News) Liverpool has no intention of pursuing the signing of Kylian Mbappé, as confirmed by manager Jurgen Klopp on Tuesday, as he playfully brushed aside any connections with the Paris Saint-Germain star striker.
The spotlight has fallen on Mbappé due to a historic €300 million ($332 million) proposal made by Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal.
Additionally, there is a possibility that he might consider a temporary transfer for the ongoing season before departing on a free transfer next year – a move that could potentially lead him to join Real Madrid, marking the conclusion of his existing contract.
Klopp has dismissed the possibility of Kylian Mbappé joining Liverpool on loan.
“We find it amusing,” Klopp remarked to Sky Germany as he readied the team for their concluding match of the pre-season Asia tour against Bayern Munich in Singapore.
“While I do believe he’s an excellent player, the financial circumstances aren’t in our favor. I don’t wish to spoil the narrative, but from what I’m aware, there’s nothing substantial to it. Perhaps someone else within the club is orchestrating something and intends to surprise me… that would be unprecedented in my eight years here.”
Klopp has observed both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, midfielders, transferring to the Saudi Pro League this off-season. Furthermore, striker Roberto Firmino has also ventured to the oil-rich nation subsequent to the expiration of his contract with Liverpool.
The Saudi league aims to enhance the global soccer landscape by securing the services of several prominent players from around the world. Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr in December marked the onset, and numerous others have since followed suit. Bayern Munich has recently confirmed the departure of Senegalese forward Sadio Mané to Al-Nassr.
Klopp has voiced his dissatisfaction with the extended transfer window in Saudi Arabia, which remains open until September 20, almost three weeks beyond the conclusion of the European window.
“It’s quite significant at the moment,” Klopp commented in remarks quoted by the BBC. “Perhaps the most problematic aspect is that the transfer window in Saudi Arabia continues for an additional three weeks. If my information is accurate, that’s what I’ve heard, and it doesn’t provide any benefits, especially for the European context.”
“UEFA or FIFA need to come up with resolutions for this. However, currently, I’m uncertain about the exact course of action.”
