Kim Garth and Paul Stirling announced ITW Irish Players of the decade

According to a press release by Cricket Ireland, the ITW Irish Cricket Awards 2021 have been announced and Paul Stirling and Kim Garth were named the International Player of the decade amongst the men and women’s category. The ITW Irish Cricket Awards were broadcasted via Youtube as sports journalist and broadcaster Marie Crowe hosted the event supported by RTE’s John Kenny along with ex Ireland captain Kyle McCallan. Audiences were treated with interviews of each winner along with a heart-touching tribute to the late Roy Torrens who had contributions by the former Ireland coaches Phil Simmons and Adi Birrell. ITW International Player of the Decade Paul Stirling was chosen as the winner among the likes of Ed Joyce, Tim Murtagh, Kevin O’Brien and William Porterfield. Kim Garth, who was adjudged the Hanley Energy International Player of the Decade – Women was competing among Laura Delany, Cecelia Joyce, Isobel Joyce and Clare Shillington for the honour. Kim, who debuted at the age of 14, finished the decade with the best batting average for an Irish player in T20Is, and the finest bowling average over the past decade in ODIs for Ireland Women. Paul Stirling was also awarded the ITW International Men’s Player of the Year while Andrew Balbirnie and Craig Young were the runners up. Simi Singh was adjudged the Test Triangle Inter-Provincial Player of the Year. Due to the cancellation or postponement of all Ireland Women’s cricket fixtures in 2020, awards were not presented in that category. Reinstatement of the International Women’s Player of the Year award will be done in 2022.
