Juventus lose against Napoli but AC Milan and AS Roma maintain their perfect record

(Football news) After a long two week break due to International football, the Serie A was back with bang as matchweek 3 provided us with lots of drama and enthralling matches. Juventus have endured their toughest start to the season but the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, AS Roma and Inter Milan remain unbeaten.

The match of the week was played out between Juventus and Napoli where the side from Naples came out victorious 2-1. Massimiliano Allegri’s side began the match very brightly as Alvaro Morata pounced on a misplaced back pass from Manolas to cooly finish it past David Ospina to give the ‘Old Lady’ a much deserved lead in the first half. The story of the second half was completely different as Napoli asserted their dominance over them. Insigne at the hour mark beautifully curled a shot and it was brilliantly saved by Szczesny, but the Polish international dropped the ball allowing Matteo Politano to tap it home. Later on, another defensive error from Moise Kean allowed Kalidou Koulibaly to score with ease. With this result Napoli stay level on top with a perfect record of 9 points from 3 matches whereas Juventus sit just above the relegation with only 1 point.

AC Milan won 2-0 against Lazio in what was a proper statement of intent from the Rossenaris towards their title challenge this season. Stefan Pioli opted to leave out both Zlatan and Giroud on the bench and start with a younger squad, this gamble paid off as right from the get go Milan looked much sharper and quicker in transition. Right at the stroke of halftime, Rafeal Leao scored to give them the much deserved lead. At the hour mark their talisman Zlatan came on after making a comeback from a lengthy injury and it took just seven minutes for him to score as Rebic did all the hard work before passing it to him who tapped the ball inside an empty net. With the result Milan are also level on top with 9 points from 3 matches, Lazio lost out their perfect record as they have 6 points.

AS Roma won 2-1 against Sassuolo in Mourinho’s 1000th game in charge in the most dramatic fashion. Roma took the lead through Bryan Cristante after Lorenzo Pellegrini cheekily found him through a freekick. In the second half, Sassuolo were quick to respond through Filip Djuricic but the deciding goal came in the 90th minute when substitute Stephan El Shaarawy beautifully curled the half volley in the net. After this result, Mourinho’s side are joint top with 9 points and having scored 9 goals and conceded only 2 goals in the three matches.

Inter Milan drew 2-2 to Sampdoria in what was an underwhelming performance from the champions. The Nerazzurri took the lead after a brilliant freekick from Federico Dimarco but were pegged back by Maya Yoshida’s goal. Inter took the lead again through Lautaro Martinez just before halftime. The second half completely belonged to Sampdoria as they equalised at the beginning of the first half with Tommaso Augello as the match ended in a disappointing draw for Simone Inzaghi’s side. With this result Inter have 7 points but are still unbeaten in the league.
