If Juventus can get rid of Danilo and Arthur Melo, two of the team’s top earners, they will have a modest fortune.
In order to strengthen Thiago Motta’s weakened backline after Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal suffered ACL injuries, the Bianconeri plan to add at least one defensive reinforcement in January. After spending nearly 200 million euros on a summer makeover, it is unclear if the Bianconeri will be able to afford the various profiles being linked to the position.
Journalist Giovanni Albanese of La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Juventus may raise money by reducing the salaries of their Brazilian pair.
Despite being on the squad list, Arthur has not been included in Motta’s plans since the season began. The midfield player is anticipated to sign a contract with Real Betis, who are reportedly interested in acquiring him. Juventus would therefore be able to save around 2.5 million euros, which is the remaining amount of the 28-year-old’s annual wage, with him no longer with the team.
Due to similar numbers, his countryman Danilo is also expected to join Napoli next month. Antonio Conte and Giovanni Manna are apparently interested in signing him.
Therefore, if Juventus is successful in getting rid of both players, they might save up to €5 million. This amount might be sufficient to land a loan agreement for players like Antonio Silva or Fikayo Tomori, but it isn’t enough to start a serious assault on any of their transfer targets.
However, the Bianconeri will have to give up one of the players who may command a high transfer price if they plan to make a long-term acquisition. Given his current standing in the hierarchy, Nicolo Fagioli is the most likely candidate.
The Feyenoord defender is still a more realistic option for the summer than for January, but this would allow the Old Lady to pursue someone like David Hancko.
