(Cricket News) The board announced in a release on Thursday that SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) is seeking the services of former national physiotherapist Alex Kountouri, Bharat Arun, and Jonty Rhodes to conduct periodic training programs in specific areas to provide advanced training for local coaches, trainers, and physiotherapists to enhance their skills and competencies.

The announcement was made at an Executive Committee meeting of the SLC, where it was also decided to introduce an award to recognize and compensate junior cricketers who perform exceptionally well in Sri Lanka’s school cricket tournaments. The award will be given to cricketers at the Under-15 and Under-17 levels.

The board also decided to increase the pay of players participating in the National Super League. In a similar vein, retiring umpires, scorers, and referees will start receiving awards starting in 2024.

The board is also considering starting an Under-21 program, especially for kids who do not have a pathway after school cricket. All relevant stakeholders will be spoken to ensure program hits the ground running at the earliest.
