(Cricket news) Rain robbed the fans of a full Test match between Indian and Australian women. It again decided to intervene as the 1st W-T20I was abandoned after 15.2 overs.
India needed to whitewash Australia in order to win the trophy. A 2-1 victory for India would've tied the series but that is now out of the equation. India need to win the next two games in order to win the series. A victory for Australia in one game or two N.R's would ensure a series win for Australia.
Australian captain Meg Lanning continued her streak of winning every single toss on this tour and put India into bat. The Blues got off to a great start as Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana added 30 runs in just 3 overs. Lanning brought Ashleigh Gardner into the attack and the spinner broke the partnership in no time as she got rid of both the openers in the same over. Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues tried to keep the momentum going but a beauty from Sophie Molineux trapped Kaur plum in front of the stumps. Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues stitched together a partnership with Rodrigues playing the aggressor.
Georgia Wereham picked up Bhatia's wicket to bring Richa Ghosh to the crease. Jemimah Rodrigues reached 1000 runs in T20 Internationals as she scored 49 before the covers were brought on. The match was a wake up call to the Australian side as India were in a better position before the match was abandoned. The Indian side showed that they have a very good chance of winning the next two games and subsequently the series. The next game will be played on 9th October where hopefully the rain will stay away.
