The Argentine-Ecuadorian goalkeeper, Javier Burrai, has reportedly reached an agreement to leave Barcelona SC with Argentina as his next destination, where he has received several proposals, according to a video that surfaced this Thursday showing him walking on the Banco Pichincha stadium’s pitch and seemingly saying goodbye. Carlos Alejandro Alfaro Moreno, a former Canaries president and sports commentator, revealed this information on January 16 during his appearance on the Marca 90 channel’s “Esto es fútbol” on YouTube. Alfaro Moreno claimed that Burrai reached out to him to say goodbye.
“It looks like he has two or three options for leaving the country to play in Argentina. The previous president clarified, “He has reached a consensus with the club, which also reflects his character as an individual.”
Burrai, who joined Barcelona SC from Macará in 2020 at the age of 34, had a key role in the team’s success that year, helping them win the Liga Pro title following an outstanding performance in the penalty shootout in the final versus Liga de Quito at the stadium in the capital.
Although he extended his contract until 2027 in March 2024, he did not continue practicing with the rest of the team in Manta at the start of the 2025 preseason since he had returned to Guayaquil.
Videos of the goalie strolling across the field at Banco Pichincha Stadium on Thursday were shared on social media, seemingly as a farewell.
