Ihsanullah Janat handed 5-year ban for breach of anti-corruption code

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has handed a 5-year ban to Ihsanullah Janat for violating the ACB and ICC anti-corruption code during this year’s Kabul Premier League. Janat has been handed a ban from ‘all forms of cricket activities’. The 26-year-old batter, who last played for Afghanistan in 2022, confessed his role in unethical practices and accepted the charges against him.

“Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match,” the ACB said in a statement. “In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities.”

Ihsanullah, the brother of ‘Nawroz Mangal – a former Afghan international,’ has featured for Afghanistan in 3 Tests, 16 ODIs and a solitary T20I. In the Kabul Premier League’s second season, he played for the Shamshad Eagles and aggregated 72 runs in four innings. His team ended at sixth in the points table.

The ACB also disclosed in its statement that “three other players” were subject to an investigation by its Anti-Corruption Unit for potential code violations. “Decisions regarding their involvement will be made upon confirmation of their guilt,” according to the ACB.
