Jahanra Alam eyeing coaching career post retirement

(Cricket News) Bangladeshi pacer and former women’s team skipper Jahanra Alam is eyeing on a coaching career post her international retirement. Jahanra was a part of Mohammad Salahuddin led coaching Level A workshop held at Mirpur on Friday.

Jahanra has been out of the national side since May last year and has done her level best to draw the attention of the Bangladeshi national selectors. Despite all her efforts she has still not managed to breakthrough into the side.

The pacer has had a decent Women’s Dhaka Premier league this year. She featured in a total of five games this season and managed to grab 13 wickets at an excellent economy of 3.42 in the 50-over tournament.

Jahanra in her international career has featured in 52 ODIs and 78 T20Is for the Bangladesh women’s side. In the longer 50-over format she has taken 48 wickets at an average of 30.4, while in the shortest format she managed 57 wickets at 23.3.

On being asked about coaching career as an option, Jahanra said  “Well I feel so (coaching as a career option) and I feel so because I love coaching and I love playing cricket. Somebody offered me different roles and I said I was not interested.”

“I love coaching and maybe in future if Allah wants something, I will be there, but for now I want to play cricket and I want to continue playing cricket with the blessings of Allah,” she said adding that participating in these types of workshop also helps as a cricketer.

“When you participate in coaching level courses, it helps in your game to an extent. I just wanted to take this chance as it gives me an opportunity to enhance my knowledge as a cricketer,” she said.

“Look what Sir (Salahuddin) was telling me, as a player, I have passed those situations so it is easier for me to relate to. This will certainly be a pathway and it will help develop coaches.”
