Is Manchester United winger Antony leaving the team for Fenerbahce

It has been refuted that striker Antony of Manchester United is about to sign a loan deal to join Fenerbahce
Manchester

(Football news) On Wednesday, it was claimed that Fenerbahce, who are now managed by ex-Red Devils head coach Jose Mourinho, were in advanced talks with both Manchester United and Antony over a switch for the Brazilian before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 13.

However there is ‘no truth’ to the rumours, with Antony remaining ‘fully committed’ to the 20-time English champions despite his struggles at Old Trafford.

Real Betis also allegedly made an attempt to sign the South American on loan in the final stages of the transfer window, but Manchester United rejected the offer.

The 24-year-old is therefore seemingly set to remain at Old Trafford until at least January, and he will be hoping for more action in the coming weeks, having only played one minute of football in the early stages of the new campaign.

Antony ‘set’ to stay at Manchester United amid Fenerbahce links

Antony was an unused substitute against Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10, and he was also not involved in Man United’s opening match of the new Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 16.

The forward was introduced in the final moments of Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on August 24, but he was again an unused substitute against Liverpool last weekend, with the Red Devils suffering a 3-0 loss to their rivals.

Since arriving at Manchester United from Ajax in 2022, he has only managed 11 goals and five assists in 83 appearances for the club in all competitions.

A difficult 2023-24 campaign saw Antony only contribute three goals and two assists in 38 appearances, and he is behind the likes of Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho when it comes to the wide positions in the Manchester United XI.

Can Antony carve out a successful career at Manchester United?

Brazilian police recently concluded their investigation into allegations of domestic abuse regarding Antony, and it was decided that no charges would be brought against him.

The forward’s former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin has accused Antony of assaulting her on multiple occasions throughout their relationship; the Sao Paulo Civil Police have concluded their investigation, but Greater Manchester Police are still dealing with the situation.

Antony will be desperate to, at some stage, move on from a difficult period in his life, and he certainly has the talent to carve out a successful career at Manchester United.

However, if the Brazilian again struggles during the 2024-25 campaign, then it would be best for both parties to cut ties next summer, as having a £200,000-a-week attacker sitting on the bench is far from an ideal situation for the club or the player.
