Rajasthan Royals edged past the Delhi Capitals by 3 wickets in another last-over thriller of this season on Thursday at the Wankhede stadium courtesy of David Miller's fifty and Chris Morris' fiery innings.
Chasing a manageable target of 148, RR reached 150/7 in 19.4 overs and registered their first win of the season. The Royals were off to a shaky start as they lost half of their side by the 10th over with just 42 runs on the board. However, Miller stabilized RR's ship with a cautious start and began rebuilding the chase for his side along with Rahul Tewatia (19). The duo added 48 runs for the sixth wicket.
Miller scored the match winning 62 off 43 packed with 7 fours and 2 sixes before returning to the pavilion. RR now required 44 runs off 25 balls with 3 wickets in hand. All-rounder Morris, holding onto his nerves smashed an unbeaten 36 off 18 consisting of 4 sixes to seal the game for RR.
Earlier, captain Rishabh Pant anchored the innings for DC with his fifty after his side was reduced to 37/4 owing to a brilliant three-wicket haul from left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat 3/15. Unadkat ripped DC’s top order with the wickets of Prithvi Shaw (2), Shikhar Dhawan (9) and Ajinkya Rahane (8) inside the Powerplay.
Pant scored 51 off 32. With small contributions from the lower order, the captain managed to take his side to a reasonable total.
DD bowlers did a brilliant job in an attempt to defend a low score as Avesh Khan (3/32), Chris Woakes (2/22) and Kagiso Rabada (2/30) shattered the RR batting order to raise DC’s chances in the game.
However a comeback at the end lead by proteas Miller and Morris, denied Delhi of a win with Morris finishing the game for his side with a six.
