(Cricket News) Around a hundred cricket legends from around the world will reignite the cricket mania during the T20 Legends League on Monday evening in the Union Territory’s winter capital city of Jammu and send a message of peace.
“Jammu set for cricket extravaganza as international cricketers arrive for Legends League,” posted J&K Sports Council on X. Finally, the wait is over as the batter takes strike and the bowler measures his runup to break the drought of international cricket after 35 years at the M A Stadium in Jammu.
The last international cricket match between India and New Zealand was held in Jammu on December 19, 1988, one year prior to the outbreak of violence in Jammu & Kashmir.
Other former Indian cricket players include the following: Shane Watson (Australia), Tilakarante Dilshan (Sri Lanka), Chris Gayle, Ricardo Powell, Dwanye Smith, and Tino Best (West Indies); Kevin O’Brien (Ireland); Hashim Amla and Morne Morkel (South Africa); Kevin Petersen (England); Abdur Razzak (Bangladesh); Ross Taylor and Martin Guptill (New Zealand); and Asghar Afghan (Afghanistan).
When asked why he decided to hold the international cricket tournament in Jammu & Kashmir, co-founder and CEO of Legends League Cricket Raman Raheja replied, “It is because I saw this as an opportunity,” in response to concerns over the situation in the UT.
He added that Jammu and Kashmir had been at the top of their list from the start, with the goal of hosting the league matches primarily in smaller towns and cities that have not had access to international cricket. The UT administration had also readily agreed to provide all the facilities needed for the event.
