(Football news) Inter Milan are going to host Bayern Munich at San Siro on Wednesday. With Inter having suffered a disappointing defeat in the Milan Derby while their visitors were held to a second successive draw in the Bundesliga. After causing finalists Liverpool plenty of problems in last season's knockout stages, Inter have awaited their Champions League return eagerly, as this year they aim to go deeper into the competition this time around. After being dethroned as champions of Italy by their city rivals, the Nerazzurri won the Coppa Italia after they beat Juventus in the final, which ended Inzaghi’s first year on high
However, in the 2022-23 campaign, they bought in Romelu Lukaku, who returned from his brief unsuccessful stay in London as they seemed to suggest brighter times lay ahead. The Nerazzurri started the season well but suffered two losses from their last three league games which has put Inter on the back foot. By contrast, the defending Bundesliga champions have been victorious on each of their three visits to the San Siro. The most recent being a 1-0 win back in 2011, when Thomas Muller was among those that made the trip to Milan. Bayern, who surprisingly sit third in the Bundesliga table, having already scored 26 times across six games this season, scoring five against both Leipzig and Viktoria Koln, putting six past Eintracht Frankfurt and destroying Bochum 7-0 away from home.
Inter Milan possible starting lineup:
Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Dimarco; Martinez, Dzeko
Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:
Neuer; Pavard, De Ligt, Upamecano, Davies; Sabitzer, Kimmich; Coman, Musiala, Sane; Mane
Liverpool will be hoping that their recent misfortune does not carry over onto the UCL group stages when Napoli host the Reds in their opening Champions League Group A match at the Diego Maradona stadium. Luciano Spalletti's side returned to winning against Lazio after dropping four points against Fiorentina and Lecce at the end of August. The effervescent Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has now gone on to score his fourth Serie A goal of the season to steal all three points for Napoli. Georgia's golden boy Kvaratskhelia sure has taken the Serie A by storm and exceeded everyone's expectation.
The Champions League could hardly be a greater challenge for Napoli’s endeavour to continue their unbeaten start to the season. Having failed to win any of their three away games this season, a trip to Naples may be very difficult for the last year's finalist. Klopp's side remarkably won all six of their Champions League games on the road last term prior to their 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the final. The wily veteran Carlo Ancelotti and his Blancos side demonstrated their dominance in big matches as it was a mirror image of the 2018 final.
Napoli possible starting lineup:
Meret; Di Lorenzo, Kim, Rrahmani, Rui; Zielinski, Zambo Anguissa, Lobotka; Politano, Raspadori, Kvaratskhelia
Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Fabinho, Milner; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
