Internazionale brush off AC Milan to win the Italian Super Cup in Saudi Arabia
Martinez scores the third goal against AC Milan in the Super Coppa Italia

(Football news) Internazionale hammered the city rivals AC Milan 3-0 to win the Italian Super Cup on Wednesday as first-half goals from Federico Dimarco, Edin Dzeko and a late third goal from Lautaro Martinez secured the trophy. The Super Cup is the annual meeting between the Coppa Italia winners and Serie A champions which was played at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

AC Milan’s Rafael Leao could have equalised after just 16 minutes, but Andre Onana tipped his shot from a tight angle over for a corner.  Inter on the other hand doubled their advantage after just 21 minutes when Dzeko got the ball on the left as the veteran striker wrongfooted Sandro Tonali and fired into the bottom right corner from inside the box. Milan after the second goal started to gain possession as they forced Inter onto the defensive mindset but they couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Leao managed to get into the box four minutes into the second half, but the Portuguese striker fired just over the bar. Lautaro Martinez wrapped up the win in the 77th minute when he scored with a brilliant curling shot from the outside of his left foot. Milan got their best chance of the match one minute into stoppage time when Ante Rebic’s intended cross hit the crossbar. The result meant that it was the first time Inter have won against AC Milan in an Italian cup final, having lost the previous Coppa Italia in 1977 and the Italian Super Cup in 2011.
