The most important phase of Luka Modric’s remarkable career is coming to an end.  After an incredible adventure full of appreciation and triumph, he is saying goodbye to Real Madrid at the age of 39.  “The moment has here.  I didn’t want to be there, but that’s football, and everything in life has a beginning and an end.  I’ll be playing my final game at the Santiago Bernabeu this Saturday,” Modric posted on social media.

Modric could never have predicted what would happen when he arrived in 2012 with aspirations to become a great player and to wear the jersey of the greatest team in the world.  “As a football player and a person, playing for Real Madrid transformed my life.  Being a part of one of the most prosperous periods in the best club’s history makes me proud,” he thought.  Modric is Real Madrid’s most decorated player, having won 28 championships, including six Champions League crowns.  An era will come to an end this Saturday when they play Real Sociedad.

However, the career of the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner may not be finished yet.  According to reports, Modric might play Major League Soccer with Inter Miami going forward, rejoining Lionel Messi.

 David Beckham’s Inter Miami has been trying to sign Modric since last year.  It was reported earlier in April that Messi himself asked the team to sign the Croatian midfield player.  Now that Modric’s departure from Real Madrid has been confirmed, rumors have it that talks about his move have accelerated, bringing the MLS back into the public eye.

Modric’s objective of being in peak form for the 2026 World Cup, which will be partially held in the US, would be well aligned with joining Inter Miami.  It is anticipated that Modric will sign a one-year extension until July 2026 after his Real Madrid contract expires on June 30.  According to sources, the contract might be worth about $2.5 million a year.

 Modric would join a team at Inter Miami that already includes Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, all of whom were once Barcelona players.  In addition to improving the team’s performance, this possible reunion would thrill supporters who are itching to see such gifted players play together once more.
