India vs England

(Cricket News) India continues to remain unbeaten in this World Cup, as they are just couple of wins away from qualifying for the World Cup. After setting a low target in the first innings, the Indian bowlers bowled out of their skin to dismiss England. England, however, has been knocked out of the World Cup. They will look to spoil the qualification chances of other teams in this World Cup, playing for pride.

England won the toss, and they decided to bowl first, seeing the slow nature of the pitch. This turned out to be a good decision taken by the England skipper, as they dismissed Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in quick fashion. India was 35-2 after the first powerplay.

The Indian skipper was the pick of the batsmen for India, as every batsman came and went, with Rohit Sharma being the only batsman to cross fifty. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed as his short-ball woes continued; however, there were valuable contributions from KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, scoring 39 and 49, respectively. India posted a total of 229-9 at the end of 50 overs.

End of first innings: India 229-5; Rohit Sharma 87 (101); Suryakumar Yadav 49 (47); David WIlley 10-42-2-3; Adil Rashid 10-35-0-2.

The India bowlers, knowing they had to defend a low target against England’s strong and deep batting line-up, bowled strict lines and lengths, giving the England batsman no room. David Malan was the first one to be dismissed, followed by Joe Root getting out for a duck.

Mohammad Shami troubled Ben Stokes with the new ball, as Ben Stokes could not find bat to ball. After facing nine balls without scoring a run, Ben Stokes came down the track, exposing his stumps, swung blindly, and was rattled by Shami.

Two overs later, Johnny Bairstow was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah, chopping it onto his stumps. England were 40-4 after 10 overs. After the powerplay, despite England having batsmen till number 10, no one was able to stitch together a partnership and get closer to the target. No batsman could cross fifty as the Indian bowlers continued to dominate. England were all out for 129 in 34.5 overs, as they are knocked out of the World Cup and possibly the 2025 Champions Trophy.

End of second innings: England 129-10; Liam Livingston 27 (46); Dawid Malan 16 (17); Mohammad Shami 7-22-2-4; Jasprit Bumrah 6.5-32-1-3.
